Review a domain’s history

What to review

Look for previous website versions in web archives, mentions of the name and links to old pages. Watch for unrelated redirects, phishing and changes in topic.

Limits of the check

Archives may have gaps. The current registration date is not a complete history: a name may have been deleted and registered again. Domain age does not guarantee successful promotion.

Before deciding

Check the chosen zone’s conditions and potential name conflicts. If you own the website, review available Search Console reports. See domain checks and finding the registrar.
