How to identify website hosting by domain and IP
What DNS records can reveal and what they cannot confirm.
Start with your hosting account
For your own website, check your agreement, invoices and hosting panel. The domain registrar, DNS provider and website hosting provider may be different companies.
Review DNS records
An A record maps a name to IPv4; AAAA maps it to IPv6. CNAME points to another domain name. Check the main domain and www separately: their settings may differ.
An IP may not identify the website server
When a website uses a proxy or CDN, the public DNS answer may show that serviceʼs address rather than the origin server. A nameserver name also does not establish where the website files are stored.
To connect your domain
Ask your hosting provider for the exact website records. See the IP connection guide and DNS guide. For domain questions, contact Bestname support.
